Swarthmore College

The Aydelotte Foundation is a research-driven institute.

In 2020-21, operating within the limitations of COVID-19, we began new work on critical race studies and how they might rewrite or inform what is conventionally called “liberal arts” in the past, present and future of higher education.

In the 2021–22 academic year, we will also continue work on the structures and histories that shape faculty and administrative responses to shifting enrollment patterns within higher education.

Our interests include:

  • Methods and media forms used to trace and represent classroom experiences.
  • The role of practical or vocational training in liberal arts curricula, past and present.
  • Forms and practices of governance in higher education.
  • Alternatives to dominant styles of institutional assessment.

We are also interested in innovative infrastructures for sustaining low-intensity distributed and collaborative research involving large numbers of academic practitioners.
